Sandi Toksvig is a Danish-British comedian, writer, actress, presenter as well as a producer on British radio, television, and political activist. She had taken over from Stephen Fry as host of the BBC television quiz show QI. She was also the host of The News Quiz on BBC Radio 4.

Sandi Toksvig’s education, early life, and childhood

While moving toward the previous life of the great comedian Sandi Toksvig, she was born on 3 May 1958. She lived with her father  Claus Toksvig and mother  Julie Anne Toksvig in Denmark.  She had attended Tormead School, an independent girls’ school. When she was 18 she had her first job was a position as a follows spot operator for the musical Jesus Christ Superstar. She had completed her graduation in law, archaeology, and anthropology at Girton College, Cambridge with a first-class degree and receiving two prizes for outstanding achievement.

Sandi Toksvig’s career

The great writer Sandi Toksvig started her comedy career at Girton College. There she wrote and performed in the first all-woman show at the Footlights. She had appeared as a panelist on comedy shows such as Call My Bluff, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Mock the Week, QI and Have I Got News for You, where she appeared in the very first episode in 1990. Similarly, on radios,  she was the familiar voice for BBC Radio 4 listeners. She had also presented Radio 4’s travel program Excess Baggage until it was axed in 2012.

In 1993, she wrote a musical, Big Night Out at the Little Sands Picture Palace, for Nottingham Playhouse, co-starring with Anita Dobson and Una Stubbs. In 1996, she had narrated the Dragons! interactive CD-ROM published by Oxford University Press and developed by Inner Workings, along with Harry Enfield. She had hosted and sang at the London Gay Men’s Chorus sold-out Christmas show, Make the Yuletide Gay, at the Barbican Centre in 2006. Similarly 2011  she had narrated the new musical Soho Cinders at the Queen’s Theatre, London. In 2011 she hosted the second season of BBC Two’s Antiques Master. In 2012, she had also written a play entitled Bully Boy which focused on post-traumatic stress among British servicemen, appeared in an “entertaining cameo” as a grumpy ward nurse, Sister Gibbs in 2013.

Starting from 1994, she has written more than twenty fiction and non-fiction books for children and adults. In 2003, she published Gladys Reunited: A Personal American Journey, about her, travels in the USA retracing her childhood. She writes regular columns for Good Housekeeping, the Sunday Telegraph, and The Lady. In 2012, she published her latest book, Valentine Grey, a historical novel set in the Boer War. She had also begun presenting the revival edition of the daytime game show Fifteen-to-One. It was an hour long instead of the original half-hour edition presented by William G. Stewart.
