- Prakash Amte is the son of Magsaysay awardee, Baba Amte (Social Worker).

- When Prakash was studying M.S. after completing his M.B.B.S., the Government of Maharashtra granted land to Lok Biradari Prakalp (a social organisation founded by his father in 1973). Prakash left his study to take the legacy of his father of social work and moved to Hemalkasa along with his family.
- Lok Biradari Prakalp includes a school, a hospital, and an animal orphanage and works for the development of Madia Gond, situated in Hemalkasa. Amte lived there without water and electricity for almost 20 years and even executed some major emergency surgeries without electricity.

- In 1995, a postage stamp was issued by the Principality of Monaco in the honour of Prakash and Mandakini.
